Recap from Net Tuesday’s Digital Storytelling for Non-Profits

Wow, did I ever have a great time speaking at Net Tuesday last night! I was invited to be a part of an expert panel on digital storytelling. As you might know, I’m a big fan of storytelling. Even though it’s something I practice on a regular basis with my clients, I walked away with tons of information and new takeaways.

Here are a few of my favourites:

  • Not all stories are good stories. Qualify what is good vs. bad in both the context of your non-profit and the piece you’re producing.
  • Identify a hero – most likely who the story is about. But it doesn’t always have to be a person.
  • Videos are the most shared content on the web, and maybe the most conducive to storytelling.
  • Stories are part of your “transformational” communications. Their goal is probably different compared to other things you produce.

Great news for you – the live broadcast was recorded! Check it out here: Digital Storytelling for Non-Profits. The actual event starts at about 35 minutes in. I spend about 20 minutes talking about storytelling and email marketing.

Enjoy!
