Last week at the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference I had the opportunity to debut a brand new talk – Creating a Culture of Storytelling.
It was a really fun talk.
Here are the slides from the presentation:
A few conference attendees asked me for additional resources for breaking down organizational silos and improving culture. Here are my favorite resources:
Create and share your personal story – It is so important to know why you do the work you do. Spend some time reflecting on this for yourself. Do some writing, talk to friends about your work and use it as a central talking point.
Start With Why by Simon Sinek – If you’re having a hard time identifying your “why,” this book with help tremendously. Sinek also has a great TED Talk that you should check out.
Nonprofit Storytelling Prompts – I started a monthly email to share storytelling prompts, which are sentence starters and questions to help people tell stories. This is a great way to break the storytelling ice. You can sign up here.
The Gifts of Imperfection and Daring Greatly by Brene Brown – Wonderful, wonderful books that will help you get in touch with vulnerability and learn how to bring it into the workplace to foster better relationships with colleagues.
